Ugly Kid Joe Rise From The Grave With A New EP

Remember that skater-rock band from the 90’s that sung that “Everything About You” song? After their last album in 1996 it seemed the band was finished, but things have changed. They are back with a new EP titled ‘Stairway To Hell’ and are touring in the UK with Alice Cooper and Loaded. I have just listened to their new EP and outside of Whitfield Crane’s style of vocals, the band hasn’t changed much at all.

It’s pure UKJ hard rock and to some it may feel dated, but if you are over 30 and you loved bands like Guns and Roses then you will feel right at home. One of the tracks even has a very Hendrix-ish riff. It’s classic hard rock and it’s not trying to be anything else.

I have always enjoyed UKJ’s beefy guitar tones, Klaus Eichstadt and Dave Fortman are great guitarists. They are also solid live, performing their material with 100% commitment. Crane has definitely changed his style on the mic, he sounds quite different to the earlier days.

All in all I give it 3/5. It’s ok, but it’s no ‘As Ugly As They Wanna Be’. Old school hard rock fans will love it.

The best track is the opener and single – ‘Devils Paradise’.
